Observation of magnetization reversal of thin-film permalloy nanostructures using ballistic electron magnetic microscopy

چکیده
We have imaged the magnetization reversal process of thin-film permalloy (Ni80Fe20) nanostructures using ballistic electron magnetic microscopy. Their switching behavior is often influenced by the formation of end domains and the subsequent domain-wall propagation under application of a magnetic field. Occasionally, this process leads to the formation of a 360° domain wall that is stable in fields which would otherwise switch the structure. The resulting state of the nanostructure in zero-applied field is very different from the near-single-domain state typically observed. The magnetization of the structure can show abrupt changes in a fixed magnetic field. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0003-6951~00!02135-5#

Experimental observation of switching in ferromagnetic nanoscale double disks
We investigated a system of two overlapping ferromagnetic permalloy disks, called a hysteron. For sufficiently small disk diameters the hysteron contains only one vortex which is displaced off the center of the disk hosting it. By swapping the vortex from one side of the disk to the other via an in-plane magnetic field, the magnetization in the appended disk is reversed. The magnetization rever...
متن کاملEffect of Cobalt Concentration on Structural and Magnetic Properties of Co-Fe Thin Films
Co-Fe films were electrodeposited on Cu substrate from electrolytes with different Co concentration levels. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to investigate the films crystal structures. The results indicate that if the Co concentration is less that the Fe concentration, the cubic structure appears in the films, while the hexagonal structure dominates when the C...
متن کاملEffect of Target Composition and Sputtering Deposition Parameters on the Functional Properties of Nitrogenized Ag-Permalloy Flexible Thin Films Deposited on Polymer Substrates
We report the first results of functional properties of nitrogenized silver-permalloy thin films deposited on polyethylene terephthalic ester {PETE (C10H₈O₄)n} flexible substrates by magnetron sputtering. These new soft magnetic thin films have magnetization that is comparable to pure Ni81Fe19 permalloy films. Two target compositions (Ni76Fe19Ag₅ and Ni72Fe18Ag10) were used to study the effect ...
متن کاملNanoscale imaging of buried topological defects with quantitative X-ray magnetic microscopy
Advances in nanoscale magnetism increasingly require characterization tools providing detailed descriptions of magnetic configurations. Magnetic transmission X-ray microscopy produces element specific magnetic domain images with nanometric lateral resolution in films up to ∼100 nm thick. Here we present an imaging method using the angular dependence of magnetic contrast in a series of high reso...
متن کاملBallistic electron magnetic microscopy studies of magnetization reversal in CoÕCuÕCo trilayer films
We have used ballistic electron magnetic microscopy to image, with nanometer resolution, the magnetization behavior of Co/Cu/Co trilayer films in the presence of a magnetic field. Films prepared both by thermal evaporation and by magnetron sputtering have been studied. In each case we have observed both large, ;500 nm, domain structures, and much smaller, apparently randomly dispersed, regions ...
